SERVICE & REPAIRS
Warranty or Guarantee Repairs
Most pen manufacturers offer very generous warranties. We can advise you whether the problem is covered by a guarantee. If so, we will send it back to the relevant repair centre, discuss the problem with the service department and have it serviced and returned. Timing: Most pen companies? process warranty repairs within 10 ? 20 days unless otherwise notified. Cost: A postage and insurance fee is generally charged for this service and normally costs between $9 -$15 as these fees are not covered by the warranty. A more expensive item?s insurance charges may be higher. We supply a free quote before all repairs.
In Store Repairs
Not everyone realises it, but a pen is a lot like a car. If it breaks down you need a good mechanic, one who knows all models and who is an honest and reliable businessman. John Di Blasi is not only the owner and manager of Pen City; he is also a specialist pen repairer. John has over 20 years experience in this field and is always up for a challenge with any type of instrument that needs repair. Most in-store repairs take a minimum of 5 working days, assuming we have the parts. Our charges are fair and more than competitive. Each repair can be individually quoted and return postage is charged only at cost.
Service & Overhauls of Fountain Pens
Even if your pen is not broken, it may not be performing the way it should. Just like a car, a fountain pen needs an occasional service. This involves stripping it down, cleaning it out and checking all working parts. The costs involved with this service will depend on how long the repair takes and any spare part used. We can supply a free quote, but a rough guide is $30 - $60.
Self Servicing of Your Fountain Pen
Do not wait until your pen is not working before you think about servicing. You should be cleaning the pen yourself on a regular basis. Once every couple of months, normally in between refilling, clean out your pen with cool (not icy) tap water. This may be done by holding the nib unit under flowing water until it runs clear. Or for bottle fill pens, fill from a glass of water, the way you would from the inkbottle and flush through, repeating several times. Please Note: Never leave your pen with ink in it, if it is not going to be used for more than two weeks empty and clean as above.
Fountain Pen Ink flow
Pen City can adjust the ink flow on fountain pens with solid gold nibs. Don?t put up with ?just the way it is? when you can have it just the way you like. An accountant needs as little ink as possible to come out, whilst a big signature, looks great with a large flow. Come in and see if we can make your pen suit your writing.
Mechanical Pencils
More often than not, a problem with a quality mechanical pencil is a simple matter of blocked lead. Although we can repair lead-blocked mechanisms, prevention is the best solution. Prevent blockages by limiting the amount of lead in the refill chamber at any one time. We suggest a maximum of six leads in a standard pencil or four in a multi-function or particularly slim instrument. Also please take care that the size lead you are using is the right size for your pencil. .7 leads put into a .5 mechanism will cause a major blockage. Most mechanisms have the lead size written or etched onto them.
Spare Parts
We stock hundreds of spare parts and nibs and have access to thousands more. Not only for new pens but also for antiques and discontinued models as well. Some parts are rare second hand pieces and many are new, well priced replacements. Chances are that we can help, so give us a call.
Antique Restoration
At Pen City we have a great respect for antique pens and like to see them being used or appreciated. We can restore most old pens to working condition, assuming we can get the new or second hand parts. We also fit new bladders to antique fountain pens, service them and then adjust the nib for good ink flow. We can generally repair most bent and damaged solid gold nibs.
Don't throw out your old pens; Bring them into Pen City!
